Building a Community

In my professional life, building a community has been one of my greatest joys. That includes the families I work with, but it also extends to the many local businesses that I am proud to support.

The Log Farm is the top of the list.

Amy and Ryan Orr have been stewards of this extraordinary piece of land for the last several years now. In that time, they’ve curated a little slice of heaven – just off the beaten track, but not far from Barrhaven – where the pace slows down, animals abound, and the kids can get back to nature.

The Log Farm is an ideal spot all year round: from fall’s beautiful colours, to Santa’s winter outpost, to the upcoming maple syrup season.

In between these busy times, they open their gates for me and my clients. I’m so lucky to be able to bring my families to this perfect, private Eden, where we get to roam freely in search of the ideal shade tree or sunny spot. Some days we throw down blankets; others we toss them like parachutes. But fun is always the common denominator.

It’s no exaggeration to say that when the pandemic hit, having the farm as a socially distanced retreat was the saving grace for many local families. And during that time, as restrictions lifted, I continued to introduce more families to the magic of the farm during our sessions.

As we turn the calendar again, and spring gets that much closer, I’m looking forward to the taste of taffy cooled on fresh snow, the sound of tires crunching on a wagon ride, and the smell of a wood burning fire.

Over the years, I’ve bought my own family to the farm countless times, and there’s something for kids of all ages. To all my clients, whose special memories I’ve captured here, I hope we continue to enjoy the privilege of making visits here for many years to come.
