Back to school: For many kids, the end of summer often comes with mixed feelings. The days of leisure, outdoor adventures, and endless sunshine start to wane as they prepare to head back to school. However, this transition also carries an air of anticipation and excitement. It’s a fresh start, a chance to meet new friends, learn new things, and grow in countless ways.

One beloved tradition that marks the beginning of the school year is the annual school photo. These snapshots capture a moment in time, freezing in place the innocence and eagerness that children feel as they step into a new grade. But let’s be honest – school photos are notorious for their potential to capture awkward moments.

While I heartily enjoy the awkward school photos, and probably always will, I have a soft spot for a more polished annual keepsake too – something that shows their spirit, their joy and their natural smile. Something that they feel excited about because it looks and feels like them.

This is why I run back to school mini sessions every year. They’re quick, they’re just a nugget of a session but they are so fun and the kids enjoy it as much as I do. It’s as much a tradition as any other sessions I run and I’m going to keep doing this for as long as I can!

I want to celebrate my children’s journies through life, and school photos is part of that, for us! These photos are a testament to growth, change, and the enduring spirit of childhood.
