Graduating Grade 8 is an unforgettable milestone in a teenager’s life. It marks the transition from childhood to adolescence and opens the door to new adventures in high school. It’s a time often marked by graduation too – a ceremony, family watching and quite possibly, some food to feast on. Certainly, when I graduated from Grade 8, we had an evening ceremony at the school, awards were delivered on a stage and it felt special – so special that I still remember it fondly to this day.
For my own Grade 8 graduate, there is no ceremony. She missed out on an in person graduation at the end of Grade 6 (thank you pandemic!), and while I’m sure the daytime activities hosted through her school will be fun: dance, games, photo booth, I couldn’t help but feel a bit sad for her to not have this memory with her friends, as I know how much I loved mine!
Whenever something doesn’t feel special or something is “wrong” my natural inclination is to think of photos – memories we can freeze and hopefully, fun we can have. Who doesn’t love some joyful, giggly photos with friends? Maybe you’re out there and would pass but not this crew – they all happily accepted my offer and I think, had a wonderful time! Certainly their smiles suggest they were enjoying themselves 🙂
We have so much time to be serious in life, and while I know that time will come, I am so glad it hasn’t arrived yet and that we could do these photos. I think they’re very special and I know my Grade 8 graduate is absolutely delighted to have these fun photos with her friends.
As the school year comes to an end, and a well-deserved summer vacation is near, we’ll settle in to our time to recharge, relax, and pave the way to new adventures. These playful photos might have been to capture the end of Grade 8, but really, they’re just the beginning. Let us savour this moment, hold on to our friendships, and make the most of the remarkable journey ahead.
